The Father and Daughter Bond – An Emotional Turning Point in The Utopia Treaty

Writer: Lee DaviesLee Davies

One of the most powerful moments in The Utopia Treaty is the reunion between Lauren and her father. For years, he believed she had died—lost forever on what was meant to be a once-in-a-lifetime holiday with her fiancé, Sam. Already broken by the loss of his wife 15 years earlier, Lauren’s supposed death sent him spiraling deeper into grief. Depression turned to alcoholism, a desperate attempt to numb the unbearable pain of losing everyone he loved.

Then, one day, the phone rang. It was Lauren...

The inspiration

As a father of two daughters, this bond resonates deeply with me. Writing this scene was an emotional experience—I closed my eyes, stepped into Lauren’s father’s shoes, and felt every ounce of his sorrow, disbelief, and hope. The words flowed exactly as I saw and felt them, and by the end, I was emotionally drained, as if I had lived through it myself.

I won’t give away any spoilers, but let’s just say chapter 10 is a rollercoaster of emotions. I hope when you read it, you feel the same intensity, the same heartbreak, and the same glimmer of hope that I did while writing it.
