Robert Maheu is a fixer with expertise in intelligence work, surveillance and covert operations. Robert Maheu possesses unusual moral detachment suited to assignments where discretion matters more than conventional ethics. Robert Maheu negotiates fee of $35,000 from Hughes for covert operations including making people disappear. Robert Maheu meets gangster Kid Cann (Isadore Blumenfeld) in Minneapolis to recruit his criminal network. Robert Maheu agrees to provide Cann falsified documentation, alibis and judicial influence in exchange for covert transportation network support. Robert Maheu recruits Kid Cann to establish criminal infrastructure. Robert Maheu discovers Buddy Holly alive after the aircraft crash. Robert Maheu panics when learning Robert Kennedy knows of Utopia's existence, unaware the Attorney General had this knowledge.
